On Saturday, January 27, Martinez celebrated the ribbon cutting and dedication of the new Alhambra Way Mural! Hosted by the Friends of Alhambra Creek, it was a great celebration of the latest public artwork addition to the vibrant Martinez community.
The new mural, located on the underpass of Highway 4 on Alhambra Way, includes spectacular imagery of native flora and fauna, including the California newt, great blue heron, North American river otter, and monarch butterfly. The mural was designed and painted by Tim Hon of the Illuminaries, with volunteer help.
You can visit the Friends of Alhambra Creek website at

The mural project was approved by the City Council in March 2023 under the Public Art Policy. For more information on the City's Public Art Policy and to make your own public art proposal, please visit
