The Planning Division plays a crucial role in shaping the physical, social, and economic aspects of the city to ensure a sustainable and thriving community.

Policy-driven documents like the General Plan, the Downtown Specific Plan, and relevant sections of the Martinez Municipal Code serve as the guiding framework for planning. Staff systematically assesses development proposals, ensuring adherence to the directives outlined in these policy documents.

The Planning Division also serves as staff liaison for the Planning Commission and serves as the Zoning Administrator.
