Planning oversees how land and buildings are used for commercial and residential projects. • Subdivisions (Title 21) - This title regulates the subdivision of land and requires the provision of certain improvements and payment of in-lieu fees which are needed as a consequence of the subdivision of land.

• Trees on Private Property - Preservation, Protection, and Removal (Chapter 8.12) - This chapter governs preservation of certain protected trees in the City of Martinez. The purpose of this Chapter is to provide for protection of trees on private property by controlling tree removal while allowing for reasonable enjoyment of private property rights and property development.
  
  
• Noise Control (Chapter 8.34) - This chapter is intended to implement the goals of the Noise Element of the 1973 General Plan by prescribing standards prohibiting detrimental levels of noise.
