The Office of the City Clerk is committed to serving the residents of Martinez, the City Council, and City staff. The City Clerk's Office complies with all federal and state laws including the California Government Code, California Election Law, FPPC regulations, the Ralph M. Brown Act open meeting laws, and the Public Records Act.  The Office of the City Clerk provides:

  • Access to City Meetings - Scheduled meetings of the Martinez City Council are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month with some exceptions for holidays. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and are held at: City Hall - Council Chambers, 525 Henrietta Street, Martinez, CA 94553
  • Access to Public Records - The City Clerk is the custodian of public records for the City of Martinez. In accordance with the California Public Records Act (CPRA), Government Code ยง6250 et. seq., the City provides access to public records, except those exempt from disclosure by law. Submit a request.
  • Receipt of Legal Service, Claims and Appeals - The Office of the City Clerk receives service of legal filings (subpoenas, summons, etc.). The Office of the City Clerk is also the primary recipient of Claims against the City, bids, proposals and quotes for City projects. If you are a Process Server and/or wish to serve the City, an appointment is required. See below for appointment details.
  • Information Related to the City's Municipal Code - The City Clerk maintains the City's Municipal Code and can assist you in your research of local codes and ordinances.  
  • Coordination of City Elections and Commission Vacancy Recruitments - The City Clerk is the chief elections official for the City of Martinez. Information regarding the next scheduled election, candidate qualifications, and campaign filing obligations is available on our Elections page. The City Clerk's office also coordinates recruitments for City Commission and Committee vacancies. BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

To ensure the best possible service, the Office of the City Clerk provides services by appointments only. Walk-ins are welcome but service is not guaranteed. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (925) 372-3512. Appointments are held during City Hall business hours, Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm.
